The education sector has almost entered into a storm. A big storm! The three very strong winds - Education Policy (NEP), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the omnipresent Internet, are poised to rock even the biggest of ships (schools). As we enter deeper into the storm, here is my straightforward question to every school leader - Is your school ready for this biggest-ever disruption?

Now, it's not an exaggeration to say that a school is a technology driven organization. And thus, managing the technology related issues is now a major to-do for the Principal and the school administration.

Hello dear college student! You must be planning to start your career in the next couple of months or years. And that would be in the post-covid world. Whether your beginning is going to be bad, good or great, will depend a lot on your ‘Internet Maturity’. There are two reasons.

iMature.in is happy to share that Sehwag International School, Jhajjar, has adopted our Digital Citizenship & Internet Maturity program for their teenage students. In the beginning our online course shall be taught to the students of grades 6, 7 and 8.

Telecom sector in India is transitioning from being voice driven to data driven. What this means is that initially (1990s to 2010) majority of usage and hence revenues for telecom companies came from voice calls and today it comes from data services. Even voice calls are being delivered over data channels. 

Just like individuals, organizations are also Internet "users". Internet Maturity of an organization is reflected in its policies and approach towards dealing with business processes which involve use of Internet, as explained below.

Schools are where real action on Digital Citizenship & Internet Maturity should happen! This time the real action has happened at The Billabong High International School, Bhopal! They have included DCIM in their curriculum for classes 6th onwards and will be the first school in India to certify their students on the same. Section 66A of India IT Act has gone! Personally I am very happy and even more hopeful for future of Indian democracy, and so are all other digital citizens of India. That's because Internet is THE TOOL for mass participation in 21st century. Be it a school, a company or a nation, the stakeholders will participate in day-to-day affairs primarily through Internet. 

So thats my conclusion after the umpteenth session in a school with students and teachers. When I try to explain the same set of concepts under the title "Digital Citizenship" the audience stares at me blankly. But when I use the title "Internet Maturity" I can see (and hear) that they are present in the same room with me. 

While it is a ‘work in progress’ I have created a curriculum framework for teaching digital citizenship and Internet maturity to students of classes 8th and above in schools.

Education visionaries often say this to schools to remind us of our big challenge – “How will you prepare the children of Today, to solve the problems of Tomorrow, by teaching them the concepts of Yesterday?”. One of the most important factors of 21st century life (both personal & professional) is Internet. It has a big influence in our lives today, but it will have a much bigger influence & interference tomorrow. For our children, Internet can become a big strength ...
